Climatic measurements are performed in the member companies by the measuring service of the BG for the precision engineering and electrical industry (BGFE). In the past, the necessary climatic measurement data were recorded without software support. As a result, production of the reports was a labour-intensive operation. The objective of this project was to use the BG Institute for Occupational Safety and Health's OMEGA hazardous substance software for systematic recording of the operating data, including climatic factors such as temperature, atmospheric humidity, air speed, level of turbulence and globe temperature, to use the OMEGA software for uniform reporting, and at the same time to document the data in the MEGA exposure database.
A climatic measurements module was added to the functions in the OMEGA software for recording of the operating, exposure and sampling data, thus enabling the climatic factors and other climate-related data such as energy expenditure and insulation value to be recorded. For this purpose, the subjects of climatic factors, energy expenditure and insulation value were added to the OMEGA indexes. Climatic measurements in working areas are taken in accordance with the relevant standards, with employees carrying out tasks whilst seated and standing. The measuring point elevations of 0.1 m, 0.6 m and 1.1 m for seated activity and 0.1 m, 1.1 m and 1.7 m for standing activity were considered during development of the indexes. In addition, the transfer of data from the metrological service to the BGIA was integrated into BGMG hazardous substances measurement system's data transfer system, thus making the data available for reporting. The BGMG measurement report on the measurement of hazardous substances in workplace atmospheres served as a basis for development and programming of the report on the climatic study and consultancy.
Climatic measurements performed by the BGFE were fully integrated into the BGMG measurement system on hazardous substances. This includes the procedure of the data collection, the reporting, archiving and documentation, and integration into the BGMG's QM system. Transfer of the data to the MEGA exposure database enables them to be evaluated statistically in future by sector and by working area. In addition, plans exist for this procedure to be presented to the other measuring services of the accident insurance institutions in the BGMG, so that it can be adapted and become an integral part of the BGMG.
