Methacrylates, which are found in products such as screw locking adhesives and bone cement, can cause allergic contact dermatitis. Disposable medical gloves offer limited protection due to short breakthrough times. Therefore, the most effective glove combinations to prolong breakthrough time and avoid type IV sensitization to methacrylates should be identified.
The breakthrough times of methacrylates through approx. 20 types of disposable gloves or combinations are measured in accordance with DIN EN 16523-1 (triple measurement), whereby the effect of increased temperatures on the breakthrough time is also taken into account. Measurements are carried out at 23°C (standard-compliant) and at 33°C (practical).
