Occupational Dermatology

Aims:

Work-related skin diseases are a special focus for accident insurance companies due to their frequency. A concept is needed that covers the areas of research, clinical care, optimization of prevention, rehabilitation and strengthening of individual prevention. The following fields of action were selected for the Institute for Prevention and Occupational Medicine of the German Social Accident Insurance (IPA) in a first step:

• Field of action 1 BK No. 5103 "Squamous cell carcinomas or multiple actinic keratosis of the skin caused by natural UV radiation", Generation of new findings on skin cancer (basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas) after occupational UV exposure
• Field of action 2 BK-No. 5101 "Severe or recurrent skin diseases".

Quality assurance of the diagnosis of occupational type I allergies by improvement, standardization and permanent optimization and availability of allergen testing for occupational allergic diseases.

Activities/Methods:

Field of action 1:

• Data collection on occupational group-related increased risks and identification of special criteria that could possibly lead to a differentiation between work-related, genetic or leisure-related basal cell carcinoma, in collectives with recognized BK 5103.
• Investigation of the same study groups with regard to the development of actinic keratoses towards squamous cell carcinomas.

Field of action 2:

• Development of a priority list for the allergen extracts to be prepared with regard to their relevance for the german social accident insurance, development of SOPs and quality standards for the production of allergen extracts, application of the extracts for serological IgE detection, validation of the extracts using in-vivo skin tests in practice, as well as
• production of standardized, validated test extracts, available to the requesting expert in accordance with the German Drug Law.
