Post-traumatic stress disorder in health personnel with nursing, therapeutic, social or medical activities - A systematic literature review and meta-analysis

Project No. UVT BGW1670

Status:

ongoing

Aims:

The aim of this systematic review is to determine the prevalence of typical symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder in occupational groups that work in patient care and have regular patient contact. The meta-analysis will quantitatively summarise the frequency of PTSD in the exposed occupational groups compared to a reference group without patient contact. In addition, subgroup analyses of the individual occupational groups will be carried out.

Activities/Methods:

The study is conducted according to the criteria of the PRISMA statement. We search for quantitative primary studies in the databases Pubmed, Cinahl and Psycinfo. Studies that were published between 1990 and 2025, regardless of the written language, and that report an the PTSD prevalence of the analysed study population are included. Study population: health personnel with nursing, therapeutic, social or medical activities; exposure: activities in patient care; outcome: symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. The quality of the included studies is assessed using a validated measurement instrument.
