Accident occurrence

  • Within the scope of the accident insurance institutions for the industrial and public sectors, a total of 783,426 reportable accidents at work occurred in 2023 which resulted either in death or in incapacity for work for more than three days, that’s a decrease of 0.5 %. The risk of accidents at work per 1,000 full time equivalent employees (FTE) sank by 1.0 % to 18.09.
  • In 2023, 10.283 serious accidents at work were recorded which resulted in payment of a pension or death benefit. The risk of serious accidents at work per 1,000 full time equivalent employees (FTE) thus sank by 6.3 %, from 0.253 in 2022 to 0.237 in 2023. In addition, 381 fatal work-related accidents occurred.
  • The 184,355 reportable commuting accidents in the industrial and public sectors constitute an increase compared to the previous year, from 3.29 to 3.30 per 1,000 insurance relationships.
  • The 3,682 new commuting accident pensions represent a reduction of 3.2 % in the accident risk per 1,000 insurance relationships, from 0.068 in 2022 to 0.066 in 2023. The number of fatal commuting accidents decreased from 248 to 218.
