Managers have a significant influence on the importance that employees attach to safety and health. First, managers can set framework conditions and initiate changes. For example, they can state that commitment to safety and health is an important goal for all employees and also allocate a set amount of time for it. Second, they are role models for employees in terms of behaviour at work. If managers make their workplace safe and healthy, and show appreciation and respect for their workers, it is more likely that workers will also be mindful of this.
